Earthwool vs traditional glasswool: what's actually different?

22 November 2024

Why ECOSE® technology, recycled content and a softer fibre make Earthwool the modern standard.

The binder makes the difference

Traditional glasswool uses phenol-formaldehyde binders, which give the product its yellow colour and that familiar itch. Earthwool uses ECOSE® Technology, a bio-based binder made from rapidly renewable materials with no added formaldehyde, phenols or acrylics.

Softer to handle

Earthwool has a softer, less dusty fibre, so it's more comfortable to install — a real advantage for DIYers and trades working in tight roof spaces. You should still wear gloves, a mask and eye protection.

Recycled content and sustainability

Earthwool is made with a high proportion of recycled glass and is compression-packed, meaning more product per truck and lower transport emissions.

Performance

Thermal and acoustic performance is equivalent to or better than traditional glasswool at the same R-value. It's also non-combustible and won't rot or support vermin.
